The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at NAU offers a wide variety of programs both rigorous and interdisciplinary in nature. Students may choose from several ACS approved undergraduate programs including traditional Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, and Biochemistry. We also offer interdisciplinary programs in Pre-Forensic Chemistry, Criminalistics, and Geochemistry. To further augment NAU's strong academic curriculum, the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry promotes research as an integral part of the undergraduate curriculum.
Chemistry & Biochemistry occupies a 68,000 sq.ft. four story building on NAU's north campus in the heart of downtown Flagstaff. A variety of modern instrumentation is available for use by our students, both graduate and undergraduate. Facilities are provided by Chemistry and Biochemistry as well as Physics & Astronomy, the Colorado Plateau Stable Isotope Laboratory and the Merriam-Powell Center for Environmental Research, among others.
A new biochemistry building, John Wettaw, completed in 2000, includes state-of-the-art class rooms and labs as well as TEM, SEM and NMR facilities. Also, the construction of a New Lab Facility is scheduled for completion by Spring 2007 and will be the new home for Instructional Laboratory Courses, the Chemistry Stockroom and the Chemical Instrumentation Laboratory.
